Delicious Shorbread Hearts
These delicious shortbread cookie hearts are perfect for Valentine’s day or any day for that matter!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds
- 1/4 cup white baking chips
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon shortening
- 1/4 teaspoon red food coloring
- tiny heart candies, for decor (optional)
Directions:
- Heat oven to 375F/190C.
- Using an electric mix, beat together butter, powdered sugar, almond extract, and food coloring for about 2 minutes. Add flour and almonds and mix again.
- Divide cookie dough in half, covering one and setting it aside. Place the other half on ungreased cookie sheet.
- Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, or a knife, cut dough into 1/4 inch thick heart shapes.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Let cool on sheet for 25 minutes, then remove. Repeat steps 4 through 5 with the other half of the cookie dough.
- Place the baking chips and shortening into a microwave-safe bowl, and microwave, uncovered, for about 1 minute and 30 seconds, stirring every 30 seconds, until mixture is smooth.
- Drizzle baking chips mixture over heart-shaped shortbread cookies and sprinkle with candy hearts.
